RECAP

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

So I’m back again. What’s up all? What’s good?

Worked on all kinds of stuff getting ready for some seriously needed vacation time. Designed some new shirts, printed them and took some pics of Mike, Lindsey and Rina B. Got some inventory counted and dropped off shirts to Circle Boutique, Simply Home and Meeps.

Scored some tickets to the MGMT Show at the 930 Club. Chilled in the back most of the time. Didn’t chill during “Electric Feel”, “baby girl”. Was that 15 min. song really necessary??? Once again the iPhone has disappointed me.

San Fran was awesome once again. Ok I really can’t live there but it’s a nice place to visit. Ate like oinker and chilled like a mug. (Thank you Phil!) Def have to say I’m inspired.

Now if I can get motivated.

What I Heard at H&M or THE PLAYLIST

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

So there I was at my local H&M listening to some super sassy queens talk about how much they love, love, love the new/old Amy Winehouse album, Frank.

What tripped me out was that they thought it was better than the new album, Back to Black ??? Really?….Really??? They both have their merits but to actually claim that Frank is better than B2B struck a nerve. I, then, yelled, “WHAT? Are you crazy?”, jumped across the table and shoved my bag (ha ha ha - “My bag”) down his throat while “Some Unholy War” played in the background.

“Just sign here, please.” RIGHT! So Frank is a really great album and Winehouse is totally showcasin’ that heavenly voice but that’s really all the album does, play up her voice. The rest seems like an afterthought … Light, no backbone. Can I get some bass?

B2B is very much an outgrowth of the UK only release. Damn that voice is undeniable! The album is gritty, grimey and isn’t so, so trying to be clean cut, bubble gum. Her voice is working with the hip-hop influences of the Mark Ronson, instead of sitting above the instrumentation sounding pretty.

So I didn’t mention any of this. The line was long and I was grumpy because they were concentrating on “Amy, Amy, Amy” and not on the long ass line. So, NO!

Feist_TheReminder

So I’m all about this chick!

Feist is her name and more than “1, 2, 3, 4…” is her game. (Yeh, Yeh - That was lame but anyways.) She’s Canuckin’ cool and I’ve been listening to her over and over and over again.

At this point everybody’s seen her featured in the Apple iPod commercial but that song is so not the best song on “The Reminder” album. Yes “1234″ is super happy and upbeat and makes u feel like a hippie but it is pretty damn sugary. Might I suggest:

  • “Past in Present” - Fun, frenetic song that makes you wanna go ” la , la , la , laaaaah”
  • “Brandy Alexander” - We’ve all had a least one in our life. That friend/love you’d do anything to please, even though that’s probably not the best idea in the world
  • ” Intuition” - Live somewhere in the world. Sweet back and forth with the audience. “Did I miss out on you”?

Usually I look to house music for that warm hug of bass but there’s something incredibly soothing in the world weary voice of the artist named Feist. Yah for a more up tempo vibe, check out “Open Season”. Basically a remix album of “Let It Die”, Season casts Feist in a super funky light. The styles range from heavy hip hop influenced downtempo (YAY!) to cabaret to drum and bass.

  • “Mushaboom” is featured on this album with 4our different remixes to suit for different moods.
  • “One Evening” is some seriously sexy music.
  • “Lovertits”, lover tits, LOVER TITS. It’s just so funny to say “Lovertits”
  • “Inside + Out” the Feist we know and love
